Contemplating Cameras: Need YOUR Help

I have been wanting to get a new camera for a while now and would love to hear from some of you on which ones are really good. I know I want a Digital SLR, but that's about all I know. I don't know what is best when it comes to brand: Cannon, Sony, Kodak, Nikon . . . decisions, decisions! So I need help. What suggestions do you all have? I have had the same digital camera for a while now, and while it is okay, I want something that is going to take crystal clear photos, that captures color well and offers benefits when it comes to effects.

So please let me know what your recommendations are and any suggestions you may have.

I will be back soon to post pictures from my weekend at my 10 year class reunion, so stay tuned!

Wow, lovely blog! Time flies when havin' fun. Sorry I do not have recommendations for a new camera. I just use a Canon digital camera and a Sony Bloggie for filming.

I had this same question not even a month ago :) I asked around to everyone I knew- I do public affairs and I asked the people who work at the newspaper next door to my office- They suggest two different brands: Canon or Nikon. No one I asked suggested ANY other brand. And I agreed after looking at them.

The people in that newspaper office use Nikon's- but some said they prefer Canon over Nikon's because they're less "finicky". Not sure what they meant by that.....but THEN anyone who said that would also say: But Nikon has better quality. HA! OK.

I ended up with the Nikon D5000. I. LOVE. IT. And am SO glad I went with it. It's a little bit higher quality than a Canon EOS XS base model....about on the same playing field as Canon's XTi 1 or 2 (If you hear those referred at some point. I was torn between that xti 2 and the D5000).

I have some photos on my blog using the camera. They had to be re-sized of course, but the quality of the camera is amazing. Hope this helps! I know I struggled with which one to go with...It also depends on your price point of course. I bought mine from Best Buy as at the time they had a special package. For $800 I got the camera, EXTRA zoom lens, bag and getting started DVD. The D5000, btw, is EASY to use. :-)

I have all the camera brands you've mentioned and my favorite is my Canon PowerShot A460. It's funny that my cheapest camera turned out to be my favorite, go figure! lol!

Hope you had fun at your HS reunion....can't wait to see pictures! XO ~Liz

We just bought a Canon Rebel EOS Ti2 and LOVE it. It is perfect for chasing my 11 month old around and takes beautiful pictures! There is also a free editing website called www.picnik.com that I like to use.
Check out some pictures on my blog to see if you like it. www.babyballantyne.blogspot.com You can easily tell the difference between the iPhone pics and the Canon pics, but mostly I use the Canon!

Oops, let me "rewrite" my post. The Canon cameras I mentioned that were an option along with my D5000 was the Ti1 and Ti2. HAHA! No clue where that XTI crap came from?! haha Seems like most people who have commented have oneof these 3 :-) MUST be good ;-)

I have the Nikon D5000 and I love it! I would say stick to a Canon or Nikon. I did a lot of research before choosing my camera and honestly, you are going to LOVE the results with a Canon OR a Nikon. In the end, I chose my Nikon because of the way it feels in my hand. You are going to have a lot of the same functions and features on any mid-level to high-level Canon or Nikon camera.

This website is SO helpful. This will link you directly to the Nikon D5000 review, but he breaks down Nikon and Canon cameras. He has reviews, guides, "how to's"...it's very helpful. http://www.kenrockwell.com/tech/recommended-cameras.htm#serious Best of luck!
