Curtain Rod . . . Need Opinions Please

I am not doing "Show 'n Tell Tuesday" today because I am in need of some opinions! I have this curtain rod my parents gave me and it is gold . . .which is not really my style. It's also a bigger, thicker rod, which I'm not so sure about, but instead of getting rid of it and not using it I want to try to make it work. So I am going to paint it. My dilemma is that I don't know what color to paint it?? Do I want to paint it black or silver? I have been leaning more towards black. What do you all think? My only reservation about it being black is that what if I want brown curtains one day? I have looked at a lot of design magazine and have seen brown curtains on a black rod, and I'm not saying that I am going to do brown curtains, it's just a "what if." Or do you all think that this rod is too big and I should go buy a thinner one? I see thinner ones more these days and that's really what I prefer. But as I said, I have this one and I hate to not use it. It would be a lot less expensive for me to use this and paint it rather than go and buy one since this is a pretty long/large window.

Here is the rod. There are also 3 brackets with the rod and they just are not my style. So I may try to find something else more simple instead of these fancy brackets. Or may paint them too and see how it turns out.

I did use these like this for a little while and had red curtains on it, but I never intended to keep them up like this just because I'm not into the gold.

If I paint them and still feel like it's not the look I'm going for, then I'll just go buy a new rod, but I at least want to give it try. So what do you all think, silver or black????

my vote is for the oil rubbed bronze spray paint. it will match black and brown accessories. good luck! i hope it turns out and you love it:) that stuff can be so expensive when you buy it new.

I'd definately go black! Just spray paint them and they'll look just like new!! Show us pics when you finally decide what you're going to do... I'm excited to what they look like!

It depends on the look you're going for and whether or not you like to change things up a lot. If so, go black. If you want something that can go with any color or style, go silver.

i would go black for sure! we have black rod, with red curtains. i love it. and i even think it would look fine with brown! we have brown couches..i think it looks fine! i think it is awesome that you are trying to use what you have! i am so lazy that i would probably go buy a new rod and then regret it later.. can't wait to see what you do with it!

How about painting them red or silver and then painting them black and sanding them alittle so the red or silver show thru(or paint black 1st and silver 2nd) If you decide to do brown curtains in the future you can always repaint or buy a new rod!

Spray it black!! We just had window treatments done on 4 of our large windows and our designer demanded that we go with black thick rods.

take the plunge and go for black! worse comes to worse, you could always repaint it silver if you ever decide to hang brown (or navy) curtains someday. trust your instincts!

My vote is for white, sorry it isn't in the vote but I think it would bring it down to earth. But if not def black! Excited to see what you come up with and the finished look! Go girl!
