Key to My Heart

Today I got to thinking about my sweet husband and when we met and our journey so far together. As I was thinking of all of these sweet memories, I remembered the poem I wrote and then read to him at our rehearsal dinner 2 years ago. I remembered most of it, but found it today and enjoyed reading it again. With Valentines day right around the corner, love is in the air! Gifts, chocolates and flowers are always nice of course, but the things that matter most, the simple things that we forget about, like this poem and memories of when we first met our true love - those are the gifts that last a life time!

Mike,
I've dreamt of this day, since I was a little girl
From the flowers and dress to diamonds and pearls
The day we join hands, and start a new life
The day I remain a sister, a daughter, and now become a wife
I had been searching for the one who would make my dreams come true
While all along, God knew it was you
I remember years back, as I would say my prayers at night
We had not met, but I prayed for you, Mr. Right
Out of the blue I walked through that door, and at a glimpse, what did we see?
That I was meant for you, and you were meant for me
Through the ups and downs, laughs and cries
Without you, I cannot imagine a single day go by
You've treated me with respect and unconditional love
And for that I must thank the good Lord above
I was put here to cherish and love you
that I know with out a doubt is true
For I know that from this day forward, we will never be apart
Because all along, it was YOU who held the key to my heart

On our wedding day I gave Mike a gift. It was a framed note with one of our engagement pictures of us holding hands, along with a key. Part of the note said something about him having the key to my heart, just as I mentioned in the poem (kind of corny I know.) We have it hanging up in our house today and it is something we will both cherish always. I have a couple pictures from our wedding, and a couple of them are of Mike after he received my gift. I love it!
