My Aunt Nennie (Feb. 2, 1920 - Nov. 8, 2009)

Yesterday we got the news that my sweet Aunt Nennie had passed away. She was my Great Aunt on my Mothers side (my Mom's Aunt) but the only Grandmother figure on that side of the family that I had growing up. My Mom's Mother died 6 months before my parents got married, and then her dad Died 2 years later, a year after I was born. So growing up my Aunt Nennie (this was her nick name) & her husband, Uncle Jess were the only "Grandparent" figures I had on my Mom's side. Uncle Jess died about 7 years ago. I am sad, but also know that she lived a long life! She was going to turn 90 in February. She never had kids of her own, which is why she was so close to my Mom and my Aunts and Uncles, especially after my Grandparents died.

Through every big event, Aunt Nennie was there. Before I was born, she was there for my Mom at her wedding. My Mom didn't have her Mother to be with her on her special day (something I just cannot imagine), and Aunt Nennie filled that role. I have SO many great memories of Aunt Nennie. The garden they had full of fruits and vegetables, getting a tummy ache eating too many blue berries, her AMAZING Southern cooking, her stories, looking at her jewelry, going to the Beauty Shop with her (one of my FAVORITE things to do.) Just so so so many memories that I could go on and on in detail! But I will keep it short and sweet. I might say something at her funeral. I've already written something out, but I'm just going to wait and see how I feel that day. Her funeral will probably be towards the end of the week. Luckily, I went to go see her a few weeks ago and at that time she was still pretty much in her right mind and knew I was there. Last weekend my parents went to see her since my Dad was in town, and it was a drastic change. She couldn't talk and my Mom said she wasn't sure if she knew if they were there or not.

So these next few days are going to be busy and just a lot going on and think about. I know that she is in Heaven now and with my Grandparents, who I never met. I hope she gives them both a big hug for me, Uncle Jess too!

A couple pics I ran across . . .
Aunt Nennie & Uncle Jess came to Little Rock when we lived there to attend Grandparents Day. I remember I was SO excited to have them there and take them to my school. (Like my school uniform I'm sportin?? ha)
On my Birthday with Mom and Aunt Nennie. I had so many of my Birthdays at Aunt Nennies house growing up!

I am so sorry to hear about your loss. You gave your Aunt a wonderful tribute through words and pictures. You brought a tear to my eye! I just saw my grandmother this past weekend and she is not doing well so this really hit home for me. You and your family will be in my prayers this week.
