I just returned from the Gulfport area for a conference I attended and am looking through photos from our work, fun, and food from the past few days.

We found a charming coffee shop on the second day called the Mockingbird Cafe. It was so adorable, cozy atmosphere, and the walls were covered in local art - which I always love. Each table had a small vase of fresh flowers. I love it when restaurants and cafes do that - it's a simple touch that just adds a little cheer! I snapped a photo of my cup of goodness and the flowers - makes me want a cup now!

R.I.P Etta James!

Today we have lost a legend, Etta James! I have loved her song "At Last" ever since I was a little girl! It was and is a classic and will live on forever! Her music and voice are timeless!

"At Last" is probably her most well known song - but she has some others classics too!

One I have always liked (and actually sang at at a karaoke bar on our honeymoon) is "I Just Wanna Make Love To You"

Another - "Somethings Got a Hold on Me" - or may be better known as "I Get a Good Feelin" - has recently been mixed in with Flo Rida's latest song "Good Feeling" - which I love (it's a great workout song too!!)

Etta has passed on, but her music is living on! If you haven't heard Flo Rida's song "Good Feeling" here it is - that's Etta singing in the beginning and through out! You know you are a legend when your music is being mixed with the sounds of today!

Brotherly Love

This weekend my little brother came home from Nashville. His band Darling Parade is getting ready to go on tour and so it will be a while till I see him - so he came home to hang out for a few days! His birthday is coming up in a couple weeks and since he will be on the road at that time, I wanted to celebrate while he was here. So yesterday I took him to lunch in Midtown, then we went and did a little shopping at Urban Outfitters & Target. Instead of picking a gift out for him and wrapping it, I told him to pick a couple things out and I would get it for him for his birthday. So he got a new hat, new jeans and couple other little things!

We ate at Young Avenue Deli. It was Food & Football FUN - he was into the game!

I also told him to pick any dessert he wanted and I would make it for him over the weekend. He chose a Chocolate Pecan Pie! I had never made one before, but it wasn't hard at all! You simply make a pecan pie, but fill the bottom of the pie crust with chocolate chips before adding the filling. It was very good!

So that was pretty much my weekend! I loved watching the Golden Globes tonight! I just LOVE the excitement of award shows, the fashion and the speeches! How many of you watched? I may do a post on my favorite gowns tomorrow!

I'm up late, as usual, although I told myself I was going to get in the bed earlier tonight. I don't know what it is, but my mind comes alive at night and I have all kinds of ideas, thoughts, visions & tonight DREAMS! Do you ever have an idea and it continues to get bigger and bigger in your head? Often times I do - but then I do nothing to pursue those ideas, thoughts, visions and dreams.

I want that to change! I can't expect my dreams and passions to come to life if I don't do something about them myself! I also believe that things are not going to happen for us unless it is in God's plan for our lives! With that said - some thoughts, ideas, visions and dreams I had tonight - I gave to God. If it's meant to happen, if it's meant to be, if it's meant to be a success - God will do it and put the resources, people and path my way! I'm not going to worry about it - but will simply BELIEVE!

New Year, New Look, New View

Now that it's a new year, I figured it was time for a new look for my blog! I created new blog header last night. Kinda hated taking a picture away of us, but I figured that I'm always posting pictures and I have some of my favorites permanently on my blog - so it was okay.

Anyone who knows me knows I love black and white - so I went with a black and white stripe header with the name of my blog. I put emphasis on "be" and may change the color of that word throughout seasons! A blog should reflect you and your personality and while we are all entitled to have our blog look how we want - I'm not in to my blog being cluttered and too busy. So I wanted my new header to be bold, while also clean and simple! And I think I achieved just that!

With that said, a new view or resolution I have for 2012 has to do with my blog! My blog has taken a back seat this past year. I do social media and a blog for the bridal magazine I work for, and that takes up most of my computer time which doesn't leave me much time or desire at the end of the day for my own blog. I enjoy keeping my own blog up and posting fun things, but I'm not going to feel pressure to do it. I used to feel guilty if I didn't get something posted or post a ton of photos - but I'm not anymore! Plus it takes the fun out of it when you get to feeling that way. So my new view for 2012 - if I get a blog up, great - if not - that's great too! I'm not going to beat myself up over it! When you work full time (especially in social media) it's hard to make time for things like this - at least it is for me at times. I do however enjoy blogging sometimes late at night. It's kind of like "me time."

So that's my new view on my blog for 2012! Don't forget about me though - I love to hear from all of you! It always makes my day!

Catching up . . . . Christmas 2012

It's officially 2012! Hope everyone had a Happy New Year and wonderful Christmas! I can't believe it's all over! Boy did it go by fast! Too fast! I'm always sad when the Christmas season is over! It's the excitement of family getting together, gift giving, and just the magical feeling in the air. But it has come and gone and now it's back to the busy, day to day schedule! I'm needing to get back in gear and work, work, work, but I have been under the weather this week with a terrible cold! Hubby had it last week and now I have it! No fun at all! But I think I'm starting to get well!

Wanted to share photos and more about our Christmas. I'm going to pick only my favorite photos so I don't do a photo overload - however there will still be several - so bear with me!

Let's start with Christmas Eve! We did our traditional Christmas Eve eats & treats, went to church, and exchanged a few gifts (which is always new Christmas PJ's!) We've been opening new pajamas on Christmas Eve since I was a little girl. My Mom started that tradition and I still look forward to it each year!

Coffee & the German Christmas cake, Marzipan Stollen. My maiden name and dad's side of the family is German and I started the tradition of eating Stollen on Christmas several years ago when I learned about it from working at the German jewelry company, Charlotte!

Dad opening a gift from me - I purchased a drawing of downtown Memphis from a local artist over the summer, then got it framed. My parents lived in Memphis for many years and recently moved to TX and I wanted him to have a part of Memphis at their new home or at his office at work! He loves Beale Street and the blues and his favorite place is Rum Boogies and BB Kings - so this was just perfect because it shows both!

Today is our 4th Anniversary! Boy how these 4 years have flown by! I am so incredibly blessed to be married to my best friend who always has my back and who is always looking out for me! I love him so!

I'm looking forward to the nice relaxing night we have planned!

I started the anniversary festivities off this morning and I had a little treat waiting for hubby. I made a heart shaped breakfast casserole and had it waiting for him with a special anniversary note with a little poem I wrote. I wanted to do a little something to start the day off in an "anniversary" mood and there's no better way to a mans heart than food! Plus it didn't cost a dime. You don't have to spend a lot of money to make something sweet and special!

BUSY December

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! We sure did! It was great spending time with my family, and enjoying all of the wonderful eats and treats!

I have a lot of pictures to post, but am not going to take time to do that today. It's my hubby's birthday!! He is 33! I have to get out and run a few errands before he gets home from work today. My brother is still here and instead of us all going out to dinner tonight, I am going to a do a "favorite things" meal and get some of his favorite foods. Not going to be the healthiest meal - but it will be his favorite things that he doesn't eat that often!

Have a great week and I will be back in a few days! We will be celebrating our 4th anniversary on the 29th! We have a lot going on in December! Christmas, hubby's birthday on the 27th, then our anniversary on the 29th! Whew! Let's just hope we don't have kids in December! lol!!

Christmas Cheer at Home {Living Room}

Christmas is almost here! Can't wait to have my parents get here tomorrow and enjoy time with them along with my brother! I've been doing a little cooking, cleaning and tidying up around the house awaiting their arrival!

Last year M got me this book "Dogs in VOGUE" - I love it!!

These are our stockings. We received them as a wedding gift 4 years ago when we got married! It was the perfect gift since we got married in December!

I sure love getting to enjoy my Mom's baby grand piano, which is staying at my house for a while. I know she will be glad to get it moved to Dallas soon since they just moved there! It sure is nice having it here around the holidays though. I really need to take advantage of it and start playing again before it goes to Dallas! I'm awfully rusty!!

Every year it's a must that I make a few arrangements with cranberries and hydrangeas! Love it!!

On a sad note - M's Papa Joe, who was the only grandfather figure he had growing up, passed away this week. His funeral is tomorrow! Mike has always told the neatest and funniest stories about him and I had the pleasure of getting to know him as well! Such a neat man that will be missed! Any loss is sad with out a doubt - but this time of year it's always hard. But all is well and we remember him and the good times and stories!

If I'm not back tomorrow - Merry Christmas to you ALL! Have a safe and happy holiday with lots of love, joy, gratitude and thankfulness! And most of all - remember the TRUE meaning of Christmas!!

Christmas Cheer at Home {Dining Room}

How was everyone's weekend? Got all your shopping done? I am done! I had to get out today and do a few last things for my hubby's side of the family - but that's it! I am done with the long lines! Besides the grocery of course - got to put my list together this week - with the help of my Mom since she is the one that makes our traditional Beef Wellington for Christmas dinner. She's been doing that for over 25 years, since I was a little girl!

Now for more Christmas cheer! Our main tree is in our dining room, which is right off of our living room. It's our "fancy" tree I guess you could say. It's usually the traditional red and gold because that's what goes well with the colors in that part of the house. However, this year I bought some turquoise ornaments to add to the tree. I have a painting in our dining room that has a touch of blue - so I thought adding that color would be a nice touch! I also got drapes before Thanksgiving - which I think just makes the room! I'm so glad we got them before Christmas!

6 Days 'till Christmas! Can't wait! I can't wait to be with my Mom, Dad, Brother & hubby, go to church and celebrate the true meaning of Christmas and see their faces when they open some of the fun, special surprises I have in store!!

Christmas Cheer at Home {Den/Breakfast Room}

Finally getting around to posting photos of some of my Christmas decor. This post will be of the den and breakfast room area. Which is in black and white - my favorite color combo of all time and for any occasion. I did b&w for my wedding too, which was in December - so obviously I'm a black and white fanatic!

I have had this tree since I was 19! I was in my first apartment in college and my bestfriend's mom was thinking of getting rid of this tree and then gave it to me. I was SO happy to get it because it made the adjustment of living on my own, in my first apartment and away from my family for the first time - feel more like home! I think that first year I had it, all I had on it were lights - not many ornaments - but I loved it!! Mike wanted to get rid of it this year and get a new one - but I said no! As long as it does not completely fall apart - I will continue to use it as long as I can! Thanks Mrs. Jolliff! I think of you every year I get this tree out!

I usually put the gifts for M's family under this tree - and then our gifts under our other tree.

Used some old frames to decorate the tree and put photos from our wedding day {December 29} in them.

Holiday Side Table & Christmas Card Display

I bought 2 cute red hat boxes the other day and I already had this square one and so I stacked them up next to my sofa in our living room and placed my Christmas card display on top! I took an old book that I didn't care anything about and folded the pages and then stuck my cards in. I'm about to go check my mailbox to see if I have more cards to fill 'er up!

On another note - we will celebrate our 4th anniversary in just 15 days! Can't believe it's been 4 years! Boy how time flies! I love this time of year and so glad I chose a December wedding!

Christmas Cheer in the Guest Room

Tonight I added a few little festive touches in our guest room. It's where my parents sleep when they come and stay and I thought I would add a little Christmas cheer in there.

I have turquoise sheets on the bed with a fun brown and white bedspread and pillows, so I used some turquoise ribbon and few other things I already had to match.

Surprise Christmas Treats

Lastnight M & I went around spreading a little Christmas cheer! We left some treats on the doorsteps of some of his family and some friends! After leaving a bag full of goodies at the front door, I then sent a text telling them that "Santa's Elves" had left some tasty treats for them! The treats included some chex mix I made, cookies and some sparkling cider! We listened to Christmas Music and also had our doggie, Mr. Big along with us (who wore the cutest Christmas sweater!!)

Then Thursday night we went to the Memphis Zoo for a Christmas party. The zoo was shut down just for this party and it was so much fun! It was cold, but they had a hot chocolate bar set up as soon as people walked through the gates of the zoo, so you could get you a cup of hot chocolate (or hot cider) and walk around the zoo and look at their winter wonderland of lights. They had different food stations: nacho station, taco station and chili station and then their dessert station - WOW! It was huge!! They even had an ice skating rink too! I wish I could ice skate, but I've never been too good at it and with my bad ankle I can't take a chance trying it again. But it sure was fun to watch!

We had lots of cookies left over from our surprise deliveries so I bagged them up and told M to to take them to work with him and hand out to some of his co-workers. It's crazy where he works this time of year and it's always nice to get a little treat at work!

Heading to a Christmas party tonight at the amazing Heartwood Hall! Now if I can just find something to wear!!

Doggie Christmas Wreath

Anyone who knows us knows that we are crazy about our dog, Mr. Big! He is our baby!! For fun, lastnight I made him a little Christmas wreath and put it over his dog bowl! It's cute and festive and adds a little holiday cheer!

He had to check it out for himself! Probably a good thing it wasn't a real wreath - he might try to eat it!

All I Want For Christmas Is You

Tonight we took some photos at home for our Christmas cards! This year due to The Mr.'s work schedule - we didn't get to have any professional photos taken. But that's okay - I am working on cards now and I think I can do something fun with the photos we took tonight. I will probably end up using a black and white image - but we shall see.

In the meantime, here is one of my favorites! I have been saving this dress that I got from Dillard's for 3 months now. I knew I wanted to wait and wear it around the Holiday's and I think it was perfect tonight for our photos!

Music & Martinis {A night for Mom}

Over Thanksgiving weekend, My Dad and I threw a small surprise get together for my Mom and had our family friend and pianist, Mr. Leonard come play at my house.

My dad recently bought a baby grand piano for my Mom. A very close friend of mine was selling it here in Memphis and it worked out perfectly that my parents got it because one day it will be mine and it's special knowing where it came from. Since they have just moved - the piano is living at my house for a bit so, my Dad and I thought it would be nice to do something for my Mom and let her enjoy her piano over the holiday.

So it was a night of Music & Martinis for our family and a few friends.

Catching up - Thanksgiving

I hate that I'm just now posting about Thanksgiving, but I have been out of town and haven't had much time!

Thanksgiving was great! My parents came in from Dallas, and my brother from Nashville and we were all together - which is what Thanksgiving is all about! We were with my dad's side of the family on Thanksgiving day - which was so much fun as usual! We had a great meal and visit with everyone.

After we ate and visited at my Uncles house - we went to my grandparents to visit for a while! My grandparents have a dog that they are just crazy about - and a cat! The cat and dog are friendly and I captured the cutest photo of my Grandpa in his chair with his 2 pets! SO cute!!!

I always think half the fun of Thanksgiving is having leftovers to enjoy - so since we were going out of town for the day for Thanksgiving - I decided to fix some things at my house for us to enjoy and eat on for a couple days. I made my first Turkey. I was pretty nervous about it and did the typical mistake of buying the Turkey the day before I was planning to cook it. I googled some tips on thawing it out and once it was all said and done - it was perfect! Not bad for my very FIRST turkey - If I do say so myself! My family loved it too and said it tasted great! Score!!

Another first for me for Thanksgiving was making a Pumpkin Pie! I cook quite a bit but this is one thing I have never made. I guess because my Mom is always the one who makes it and so I have never tried. Since my parents were traveling over the holiday - I took it upon myself to give pumpkin pie a try! And like the turkey - I think it was a success!! Pretty proud of how it turned out! I added some pecans for decoration!

I have some more pictures of Thanksgiving, but these are the main ones I wanted to share. I will share one more though that I just LOVE - my dad was sitting on our couch relaxing and my sweet baby boy, Mr. Big was hanging out with him! Love this!! I had Mr. Big in his cute Thanksgiving scarf too! He has scarves for each season! He's a festive, fashionable little fellow!

Give Thanks

Thankful today for my home! A home is one of the most treasured things! It's where you live, it's where you create memories, it's where you build a life!

I am also thankful today because we are getting 2 new pieces of furniture, a sofa and a coffee table for our living room. Since we are getting a new sofa in that room, we have moved our other one in our den area, which has allowed me to do some rearranging and change the room into the black and white space I've always wanted.

Still tweaking here and there, but think it's coming together nicely so far . . .

Last night I stayed up (way too late) and worked on a project and made my own "Give Thanks" sign to go over my mantel! Think it turned out pretty cute! Will have to take more photos later.

I'm also very excited because my family is coming tomorrow and I can't wait! It's been a while since I have seen them. But the good news is, my parents are moving to Dallas - which means they will be much closer and I will be able to go visit more. (Before they were 13+ hours away.)

My Fall Fashion Staple & Colored Jeans

It is at the in between kinda cool, but not too cold weather and I have been wearing my favorite Fall fashion staple - my black blazer!

I love wearing it because I can dress it up or down, I can wear it over a dress or with jeans and I can make some of my sleeveless tops I wore in the summer transition into my Fall wardrobe!

We went to a birthday party over the weekend and I wore my blazer over a long, black tunic, paired with my new electric blue jeans (which you can't really see in the picture unfortunately.) I have been wanting a pair of these pants for a while and finally bought some last week at Target! I've seen a lot of celebs wearing them lately and since I wear a lot of black, I thought it would brighten up my wardrobe a bit.

I also wore this blue stone necklace that I've had in my closet for a while. I was just waiting for the perfect outfit to wear it with and when I bought the pants I immediately thought of this necklace! I got the necklace at Charming Charlie. Sometimes that store gives me a headache because there is SO much in there - but last time I was in there I totally scored when I got this necklace! However, I must say - if you need an accessory in a certain color . . . . that is the store you want to go to!!

$50 Family Photo Sessions in Memphis

Wednesday night hubby and I went to the first Memphis Tigers game. I became a fan because M went to school there and is a huge fan of course!

I went casual in my Memphis attire! We enjoyed the game then went to the Flying Saucer afterwards. I used to hang out there ALL the time back in the day, but hadn't been there in forever so it was good to go and hang out for a bit!

Hopefully the Tigers will have a good season! Our football team is not too impressive, but Tigers basketball is usually pretty exciting! We shall see!

Feelin Like Fall

I have been adding a few of Fall touches around the house over the past few weeks. I'm not quite done, but have done a few things here and there to make our nest feel like Fall. I have mums on my front porch, made a wreath for my front door, decorated my dining and breakfast room with some festive Fall touches!

First my breakfast room . . . .

Still need to take a better photo of the wreath I made on my front door - this was taken at night with my phone. I'm normally not a huge wreath fan except for at Christmas and just could not find a wreath for Fall that I really liked - so I made one! I don't like wreaths that have too much going on - so I made one with leaves for fall but in a square shape for a bit more modern feel - if a wreath can even be considered modern?? lol! But here it is . . . .

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall

Last year for Christmas my parents almost got me this fab sunburst mirror but they were not 100% sure I would like it (duh) and ended up getting me another cool piece instead. Later they showed me a photo of the mirror and I fell in love with it. After they saw how much I loved it they felt bad they didn't get it - but I told them it was okay and that I was going to try to go back and get it.

I've been watching this mirror for almost a year now. I would go by the store and see if they still had it and it's always been there. Last week I went by and was looking around and had the mirror on my mind as well and headed over to the area it had been hanging all this time and it was not there! I was like "Oh no!! They finally sold it!"

I really hated it but knew after all that time someone would by it. As I was leaving the store I was walking along and what did I see?? The mirror!!! It was hanging in a different area! I was like YES!! I knew that I had to get it. I went home and decided I was going to come back this week (assuming it would still be there.) So today I went up there to make my purchase and the sales lady saw me as I walked through the door and said I looked like I was on a mission. I told her what I was there for and how my parents almost got it for me last year and she said she remembered because she was the one who helped them. She said they had the hardest time deciding and that she was so glad that it was still there and that I was finally getting it! Talk about meant to be!!

What makes this story even better is that she also told me that the mirror was now 50% OFF & all I could say was: SOLD!!!!

I'm so excited and I like I said . . . talk about meant to be! After almost a year this mirror was STILL there! It's going in my dining room on a wall that needs something large like this! I can't wait to pick it up tomorrow!!!! I will post pics once we hang it!!

Back to Blogging & Updates

I have not been on my blog or done any kind of update for 2 months now - which is rare for me. But I have been so busy and since I am now doing social media for 2 companies, I don't have much blogging energy left for own personal blog. (As I am typing this hubby just said "You're actually doing your blog?!?!) I know it's been a while when he's saying that! He used to give me heck about how often I was on my blog.

I love blogging and updating my own personal page, but when things get so busy, it becomes and chore and I've decided that I will do it when I have time, but I'm not going to stress or worry about it if I don't!

That said - some good things have been happening at The Nabors house! M got a promotion!! It has been something he has been working towards for a while and when he found out a few weeks ago I was just SO happy for him and for us! I am so thankful!!

The day I got the call that M got the job, I ran around looking for a new leather laptop bag for him to take to work. I have been wanting to get him one for a while and I was on a mission! I finally found one, got it wrapped then went looking for some nice pens! I got him some super nice pens that write like a dream. I also planned on taking him to dinner that night to celebrate! We went to a fab place here called Mesquite Chop house and enjoyed great food and drinks!

I have also taken on a new project for along with my job at the magazine. I am doing some Corporate Styling for a company and that along with my work for the mag is keeping me quite busy!!

Before M started his new job - he had a week off and we enjoyed that week running around and going to a local festival. We never have free time to do those types of things and so we really enjoyed that time together!

And while I'm uploading a few pics - here are more from the past month . . .

{The couple who got married are middle aged and have everything but I still wanted to get them something, so I put together a "Napa" themed basket for them. Their reception had a wine theme so I made an "m" for their last name out of wine corks, bought some cooking oils from Napa Valley (they like to cook), wine glasses and a great candle. I hope they liked it!!}

And over the weekend, hubby and I went to dinner with some good friends of ours! I tried a new look and did a nude lip - still not sure about it, but think I kind of liked it for a change!

The only other update I have is that my parents are moving to DALLAS and I'm so excited!! My Dad got a promotion and so they are relocating! I'm so happy because they will now be only 7 hours away instead of 13, and it's Dallas!! Can we say SHOPPING?!?! So looking forward to it!!

Summer Soirée

Boy has it been a crazy busy week! Whew! I sure am glad it's the weekend and things have slowed down! I had a lot going on at work this week because we had an event for the magazine called Southern Bride's Summer Soiree! It was last night and it turned out amazing!! The theme was "beach chic" and the decor was incredible and set the tone for a relaxed summer party! We had a photographer there who got some great shots, but I did snap a few with my phone - this photo shows you what type of party it was, but does not do it justice as to how fabulous it looked in person!!

This was me on the way to the party. I wore a coral dress and earrings from my new FAVORITE store, W by Azwell! I loved it!!

Along with the fab atmosphere, there was also fabulous food, music, entertainment (we had fire dancers there) and just pure fun! The most fun was with the photobooth: Hot Shots Photobooth! Everyone had a blast with it, including me! I got lots of pics!

Overall it was a great night . . . but now I'm ready for a little r&r!

Sweets for my sweetie!

Yesterday was a long day! I worked late but did manage to run home and leave a little something "sweet" for my sweetie when he got home from work! Since it was National Chocolate Chip Day yesterday and I didn't have time to bake anything myself, I ran up to the local bakery and got some chocolate chip cookies. Then came home and had it all waiting for my hubby before I went back to work.

It wasn't much, but it's the simple things that make life "sweet!"

Today is National Chocolate Chip Day!! I don't know about you, but a straight out of the oven, chocolate chip cookie and a tall glass of milk sounds divine this afternoon!! mmm!!!

Classic Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe

Makes 48 cookies

Ingredients:

1 cup unsalted butter, softened
1 cup white sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 teaspoons hot water
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
3 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Optional: 1 cup walnuts or 1 cup butterscotch chips

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
In a mixing bowl cream together butter, white sugar, and brown sugar. Next stir in the eggs one at a time and then vanilla extract. Scrape the sides of the mixing bowl.
In a small bowl dissolve baking soda in hot water. Add to dough mixture and then add in salt and cream of tartar. Next, slowly add in flour until well mixed. Add in chocolate chips and walnuts or butterscotch until mixed in evenly.
On a large non-stick baking sheet, place heaping spoonfuls of cookie dough evenly spaced. Bake for 10-12 minutes until edges turn golden brown. Remove from oven and let cool.

I have been out of town for almost 2 weeks and have barely been blogging. Actually, I haven't been doing much blogging for the past couple of months. Just so busy, plus I do the blog for my job at Southern Bride Magazine, which means my personal blog gets put on the back burner! I know I haven't been a very good blogger friend - so sorry! I hope to get better soon - but I'm also not going to beat myself up about if I don't. Life is busy and I do what I can!

Anywho - hope to be back soon with LOTS of pics from my Chicago AND Texas trips! Until then, happy hump day everyone!!

P.S. I'm still trying to unpack! ugh! Does anyone else loathe unpacking like I do?? {sigh}

And for the record - these are bags from 2 weeks of being out of town AND my hubby's, {plus a couple shopping bags!} Not all mine in case you are wondering, however . . . . I will admit I took one bag for shoes only! ;)

The Buddy Holly Museum

We are in West Texas visiting my parents this week and while it is pretty hot here, it is much more bearable than the heat we have at home, which includes a lot of humidity!!

Today we went out and about, ate lunch, then went to downtown Lubbock to the Buddy Holly museum. Buddy Holly's trademark was his glasses and at the museum they have a giant pair of glasses! I have been wanting to go by and see the museum for over a year now and every time I come and visit my parents, I've never gone. But today, I did!!

2 weekends ago we attended a wedding for friends of ours Collin & Shelly! Collin and M work together and he was one of M's best men in our wedding 3 years ago.

Collin and Shelly are the cutest couple and we are so very happy for them!

The wedding was beautiful, as well as the reception!!

When you entered the reception, the long flower arrangements was AMAZING!!

Instead of doing favors, the couple did such a cool thing and made a donation to St. Jude! They had lovely table setup for the guests with cards explaining what they had done! It was so cool!

Chicago Bound!

Tomorrow I will be heading to Chicago! I am going with a friend of mine who is making the trip for work, but also to have some fun girl time too!

I'm super excited because I've never been to Chicago! All I know of Chicago is what I've seen in movies and the fact that "Chicago" the Broadway play is my favorite play of ALL time!! My parents and several of my friends have been to Chicago, so I'm looking forward to it! I've had a lot of recommendations sent to me as far as cool places to go, restaurants, bars, etc. - but would love to know more! So if any of you know of some great places in the windy city, let me know!!

Summer Fun at Rehab Disco

Over the 4th of July weekend while my parents were in town, my Mother and I attended at birthday party at the fun Rehab Disco here in downtown Memphis! We had a blast!!

{Mom and I before heading downtown. My hair is down, can you all believe it?? I don't wear it down much, especially in the summer since it's SO humid here and my hair is naturally curly. Unfortunately once we got out on the dance floor - I had to pull it back, but at least I wore it down for a little while!}

The party was on the bottom floor which is called "Rock bottom!" Now I can say I have been to "rehab" and hit "rock bottom!" haha

The owner JJ made sure everything was perfect for the party and kept checking on everyone throughout the night to make sure everyone had anything and everything they needed!

The 4th with my Fam!

I had my family together over the holiday weekend and I was loving every minute of it!! My parents got to come home from Texas and my brother also came home from Nashville! I love when we are all together!

We grilled out hamburgers and hot dogs on the 3rd and they were oh so good! I decorated the table a little bit. Nothing elaborate, but cute.

{on the 4th, we had to go to Little Rock to take my Mom to the airport because she had to fly on home because she had to work the next day. I got this hat at Target and before we left to head to LR, I came out and made my family think I was going to embarrass them by wearing it all day! It was pretty funny!}

Feather Party, Fun & Friends

What did I do this weekend you ask? Well . . . I had a Feather Party! Feathers are the hottest summer trend and so many of my friends have been getting them and I just happen to have a friend who does them - so I decided to have a feather party!

I set up my dining room table with chargers to display the feathers and cool photos of girls with feathers - just for the presentation! It was fun to mingle, eat, drink and look at what feathers we all wanted!

I LOVE fresh flowers and having a party gives me an excuse to get a lot of them, so that's what I did! I added these feather balls that I actually used over Christmas in my tree. I loved them mixed in with my arrangements! I had some feather boas stuffed in my closet and had thought about using them to decorate with, but then decided it would look too much like a little girl party and I wanted to keep this party classy but fun at the same time, so I didn't use them!

{I made these too, which was garlic toast from my local grocery store bakery with cream cheese on top and smoked salmon. I sprinkled some dill on them for color and flavor too.}

{I love doing grape kabobs - they are easy and make a great, pretty presentation!}

{Brie and dried mango. I had some extra garlic toast, which was what was eaten with the brie.}

I didn't get a photo of some of the other things I had to munch on, which was cheese cubes, chips with spinach & artichoke dip, mini brownies, mini carrot cake cupcakes - and of course we had wine. Most of us drank white wine (pinot grigio} but I did have some red for a few people who I knew were red wine drinkers!

And the best part of the night . . my baby, Mr. Big got a feather too!! I had to bribe him with some cheese so he would be still! I love it!! And suprisingly it's not boterhing him!! It sticks straight up sometimes and I call him Yankey Doodle! so funny!! Even my hubby likes it on him!!

First we have J Lo, who these days usually gets it right and looks stunning - but what was she thinking here??

Next we have Heidi Klum, who again usually looks fabulous - but not so much here.

She was at a fashion show here, and I get thay some fashion is more art than fashion itself - but really?!? You're Heidi Klum!! Her shoes are the best part of her outfit!

The Most Amazing Man I Know: My Father

I could sit here all night, tell stories and reasons why my Dad is the most AMAZING Dad on earth, but the truth is, there would never be enough space for me to type or enough time in the world for me to say all I would want to say about my Dad! He has always loved us, worked so hard for his family, always been there, and always put everyone before himself!

I get a lump in my throat just thinking about all he has done for me growing up (and all he put up with too.) Now that I am getting older and thinking about having a family of my own, I realize more and more everyday how hard being a parent is! I know it is not easy, but I also know that while parents say there's nothing in the world like being a parent, I know that there's nothing in the world like being a daughter!

One thing I will share - is that all my life my Dad ALWAYS kissed me and my little brother good night! He always made a point to tell us he loved us and give us a kiss every day! Even today, now that we are all grown up and when we are all together, he still does that! I love that I have that memory! I know that not all Dad's are affectionate or express their love in words, and while it doesn't mean that a father doesn't love his child if he doesn't say it - I can't imagine growing up and not hearing my Dad say " I love you." While to him it was just what he did each day, it was the greatest gift he could have ever given me and my younger brother growing up! I know some people would have loved to have heard those words growing up and I am so grateful I always did!

Happy Father's Day to my hero, my bestfriend, MY DAD!!

If you haven't heard, Tori Spellings childhood home and home of her late father Aaron Spelling has sold to a 22 year old heiress (yes 22!!) It was listed for $150 Million (no biggy, right) and has been rumored that she paid $75-$85 million for it. Guess that's nothing to Petra Ecclestone, heiress and billionaires daughter!!

"The Manor" which it has been called for years, is located in LA and is a French chateau-style mansion with 123 rooms and 56,500 square feet, and on about 5 acres.

It was built for Aaron Spelling in 1988 for a measly $12 million
The house includes a screening room, bowling alley, gym, doll museum, three rooms for wrapping presents, four two-car garages, tennis court, and pool.
There are 16 carports and the parking lot can hold up to 100 vehicles

Weekend Dining Room Revamp

Over the weekend I was looking at some decor sites on-line and images of rooms with zebra rugs. I LOVE zebra rugs, I think they can add such a POP to a room and go with all colors! I've had one in our living room and while I love it there, I decided to try it in our dining room. I tried it and it looked SO good!! So now I'm going to have to keep my eye out for another rug for the living room.

Also in our dining room was a colorful/modern painting over the buffet. I have loved it there, but I had an idea of something else that would go better with the zebra rug. For Christmas M got me a painting that I had seen and fell in love with of a lady in a wedding dress. We have had it in our bedroom since Christmas and while I have enjoyed it in there, I decided it should be out where it can be seen more! So I moved that into the dining room as well, and along with the zebra rug, it MADE the room!!

I like to keep the room clean and simple, without a lot of clutter. On the other wall is a gold sunburst mirror which I also love!

Other things I would like to do to complete the look of this room:

Paint
Different chairs
New light fixture
Window treatments

There are 2 more chairs that go with the table, but I thought it looked a bit crammed and since it's just the 2 of us right now, I kind of liked having only 2 chairs. When we have dinners I bring in more chairs that go nicely, but for everyday, I just have the 2 chairs.

I think painting the room will really make everything come together too, and now that I think this is the look I want to go with, maybe I can decide! I don't know what it is with me and painting, but I am SO indecisive when it comes to picking out paint colors! I go look sometimes and try to pick something out, but then I get so overwhelmed with all of the options. I think I want something in the neutral family - while I do love color I usually like to add color in accessories. I was thinking something in the greys, maybe even a grayish brown or a blue-ish gray - since the painting has a hint of blue.

Laila Ali {daughter of the Muhammad Ali} now has a beautiful baby girl named Sydeny. I stumbled upon this yesterday and just loved some of the photos I saw. I have always liked Laila Ali and think she is beautiful. Looks like motherhood is suiting her! She is glowing!!

What I love about it so much is the photo above the crib, which is of Laila as a baby and her father, Muhammad Ali! SO sweet and such a memory to have and share with her daughter and make it a part of the nursery! Wow!!! Picture perfect then, picture perfect now!! {I am also loving the pink crib!!}

Isn't this nursery just fabulous?!?! I've always said that when I have a baby I'm not going to do pink or blue, always thought it was too predictable and I like things that are different - but I just love how they combined the 2 soft colors. I may have to retract that thought, lol!

So - just wanted to share that! I hope all of you are having a great weekend! I got in a decorating/"move things around" mood tonight and have done something different in my Dining Room and I think I LOVE it. It's so much more me!!! Anna Wintour: The REAL Devil Wears PRADA

Anna Wintour, the Editor in Chief of VOGUE is quite intriguing to me! I watched a documentary on her tonight and while I knew of her, I found out so much more about this fashion journalist queen. This may be old news to many of you but it was interesting to be reminded of her and her role in the ever changing fashion world.

In case you did not know, The Devil Wears PRADA was based on her (Maryl Streep played her "fictional" character") and interestingly enough, TDWP was written by a past personal assistant of Anna Wintour - so it's pretty safe to say that much of what is in the movie is accurate! Even when it comes to her famous and oh so fabulous real life office at VOGUE!!

She is known for her cold demeanor and black sunglasses which she always wears at fashion shows. She said she wears them to hide if she is bored at a show or loving what she sees! She likes to keep people guessing! While she doesn't seem all warm and fuzzy, I have to hand it to her, she is one heck of a lady! She over sees the details of EVERY aspect of the magazine! Working for a magazine myself, I know that this can be exhausting!! Of course she has ALL the help she could ever need, but ultimately she has the last say in everything that goes into VOGUE and that is a lot of responsibility! But she does it, and she does it well, I mean who doesn't LOVE VOGUE?!?!

She's also a walking example of VOGUE as she is dressed to a "T" from head to toe everyday when she goes to work! While she has been criticized for this, I think it's cool and shows that she takes her job seriously. It wouldn't look right if she showed up in jeans and a t-shirt everyday when what she does day in and day out is live, breath and write fashion!!

As I watched the documentary on her tonight, I learned a few interesting facts:

She's from London
She was not very good when it came to academics and dropped out of school at age 15 (wow! still can't believe this one!!)
She is divorved with 2 kids. They are grown now! (Again similiar to Meryl Streeps character in TDWP!)
She's been the Editor in Chief at VOGUE for over 20 years!
Her father was in publishing and was the editor of a popular news paper in London
Growing up she was one of 4 siblings, and had an older brother who died in a traffic accident when they were young
She began wearing her hair in bob at age 14 and that has been her signature look for all these years. She said in an interview with Barbara Walters that she knows it may be a bit boring but that she has tried to change it and it has "never worked."

I'm Baaaack . . . Finally!

I have had some technical difficulties the past few days with our Internet connection at home, so I have been m.i.a! But I'm back now and hoping the problem is fixed!! I hate it when stuff like that happens, it's SO frustrating and even more frustrating when you call to speak with someone and you can hardly understand them and really get now where.

It was Comcast (who I HATE!!) and now that everything is back up and working, I can't say thank you to them I must give thanks to my hubby because somehow tonight he got it back up and running!

We keep contemplating switching our cable & Internet to another service, but just haven't done it. Who all do you use and like? I want a service that is reliable, doesn't go out or give me problems and is a great price too!! I'd love to hear who you all use!!

I'll be back tomorrow with a more exciting post, promise!

Ryan Bingham Concert

Last night we went to go see Oscar and Golden Globe award winning singer Ryan Bingham. You may know him and his music from the movie Crazy Heart with Jeff Bridges, which Ryan also starred in. The theme song to the movie, "Weary Kind" was performed by Ryan Bingham and is what won him the awards and really put his name on the map. M has loved his music since the movie came out, and when we saw he was coming to Memphis, we knew we had to go.

It was such a fun night and M said that this is #2 for the best concert he has ever seen! Ryan Bingham's style and voice is so unique and we just loved it!! We love to go to concerts and see live music and we don't do it as much as we used to because we get busy, but I'm so glad we went last night to see RB, because it was a amazing show!!! If you are not familiar with Ryan Bingham, check him out!!

Celebrating 30 Years!!!

Over the weekend my parents made the long trip here (14+ hours) to Memphis from TX! I haven't seen them since January so of course I was SO excited! I still can't believe they have lived away from us for over a year now. It hasn't been easy since I am so incredibly close to my parents, but when we are able to get together, we have the best time.

They came home since it was the holiday weekend and we had planned on all just being together and having great fun and family time. They celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary last month and since my brother and I were not able to be with them and celebrate, we had planned on going out to a nice dinner and celebrating while they were here. As their gift, I had planned for a photographer to meet up with us before dinner to take some photos of the 2 of them and then some of all of us as a family. I was SO excited about it and wanted everything to be just perfect!!

Sunday was the day we were planning on doing this. Things seemed kind of hectic that day and to top things off I heard from the photographer (who is a friend of mine) and she said that she had hurt her wrist and was so very sorry, but had to CANCEL our session. I was pretty bummed and disappointed, but I was still determined to get some great photos of my parents! Luckily we invested in a nice camera in November, so I decided to take that with us and stop and take some photos before dinner.

I think they turned out AMAZING and I was so glad that I ended up being the one to take them of my parents!!

My parents are SO beautiful together and I am so very lucky to have them and that they are still together after all these years!! I am also honored that I was actually the one that got to take the photos! My parents thought it made it more special too! I got some great shots and I am SO pleased with how they turned out!! I don't think they could have been any better {if I do say so myself!!} I have always dabbled in photography, so this was a piece of cake to me. I also think that the fact that it was me taking the photos helped my parents relax and be themselves!

I love you Mom & Dad!! I had the best weekend and we made lots of memories!!
